What Is RSS?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It’s an easy way for you to keep up with news and information that’s important to you, and helps you avoid the conventional methods of browsing or searching for information on websites. Now the content you want can be delivered directly to you without cluttering your inbox with e-mail messages. This content is called a “feed.”

RSS is written in the Internet coding language known as XML (eXtensible Markup Language), which is why you see RSS buttons commonly labeled with this icon: XML language icon.

In general you need to get hold of a program called a News Reader. This displays RSS information feeds from your chosen websites on your computer.

All you then have to do is choose which RSS feeds you want. There are a range of different News Readers available - for a list of RSS readers and more information , see here.

Different News Readers work on different operating systems, so you will need to take this into account when you make your choice. Click on the icon that says ‘RSS’ on the issue, Table of Contents or Abstract page. You then need to follow the instructions for your particular News Reader in order to add this XML feed to your RSS list. On Atypon Link the feeds are updated daily with all newly published issues. An RSS reader is needed to set up the feeds and can be downloaded freely.

Click on the RSS button to open a feed, and copy the URL into your RSS reader to be updated.
