Cook has initiated a voluntary recall of certain lots of its Ciaglia Blue Rhino and Ciaglia Blue Dolphin Percutaneous Tracheostomy Introducer Sets and Trays that contain a Covidien 6PERC or 8PERC Shiley™ Tracheostomy Tube.

Dengue in Digos City, Davao del Sur

The Department of Health sent a team from the National Epidemiology Center (NEC) to Digos City, Davao del Sur to validate the 253 dengue cases with 10 deaths reported in the media last July 8. The news report also said that Digos City Mayor Joseph Peñas declared a state of calamity. Barangay Tres de Mayo had the most (23%) cases.   The team coordinated with the regional office of the DOH (CHD – Davao Region) and the local government of Digos City, including its City Health Office (CHO) that reported the cases.   The team also started to review the hospital records of patients, validate data from the CHO, the Provincial Health Office (PHO), Regional Epidemiology & Surveillance Unit, and the Philippine Integrated Disease Surveillance & Response, and conduct an entomological survey in the five identified barangays with the highest number of cases and an ocular survey of areas with cases. Blood samples were drawn from those cases admitted in the different private and government hospitals. In coordination with the DOH, the CHO initiated fogging in the affected barangays, conducted information, education and communication (IEC) campaigns, managed cases, and continued surveillance in the city. read more

Kent Nutrition Group, Inc. Conducts Nationwide Voluntary Recall of Kent Feeds Swine Products

Kent Nutrition Group, Inc. (KNG) is voluntarily recalling some Kent Feeds swine feed products due to insufficient vitamin D levels in premixes it purchased from Tri Ag Supply, Inc. that were used in those swine feed products. The recall is being implemented in order to prevent health problems in swine consuming feed products where there is a vitamin D3 deficiency.

Covidien Initiates Voluntary Recall of Certain Shiley™ Tracheostomy Tubes

Covidien (NYSE: COV) has initiated a voluntary recall of certain lots of its cuffed ShileyTM tracheostomy tubes and Custom/Specialty tracheostomy tubes due to the product’s cuff not holding air as a result of leaks in the pilot balloon inflation assembly. With respect to the affected units, if a cuff does not hold air, ventilation will be adversely affected since the ability to generate positive pressure in the airway could be compromised by lack of cuff seal.
